FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the Dull Men's Club (DMC)?
The DMC is a place for dull men to feel at home, to feel comfortable and to share safe excitement.
Is it OK to be dull?
Of course. It is the primary purpose of the Dull Men's Club to assure and reassure members that it's OK to be dull
Are dull men the same as grumpy old men?
No. Grumpy old men are always complaining about things. They complain about everything. Can you think of anything they actually like?
By contrast, dull men seldom complain. If they do, it's usually about something — the TV, radio, or a conversation – being too loud. Dull men like many things especially ordinary, everyday things.
Are dull men the same as idle men (like in The Idler)?
No. Dull man are not idle. Dull men do things - they make to-do lists and then do them - ordinary, everyday things that need to get done and they particularly like routine things.
Are dull men the same as nerds?
No. Nerds do nerdy things like wearing a glasses strap.
Are dull men the same as boring men?
No. A boring man is a dull man - just one who doesn't know when to shut up.
Boring men go on and one. Boring men believe that they are interesting.
Dull men accept their dullness. Dull men tend to be introverts whereas a boring man is an extroverted dull man.
Are there other characteristics of a boring man or extroverted dull man?
Yes. An extroverted dull man may wear a gray shirt - but it’s often a two-tone gray. When he’s talking with you, he doesn’t look at his shoes - he looks at your shoes. He rides elevators because he likes the music - he also sings along.
How do I join the Dull's Men's Club?
If you are a dull man and you are enjoying this website, you are already a member. Feel free to contribute new topics or add to existing ones.
Are dull men a movement fighting for rights?
No. We are not a movement; we like to stay put. Dull Men are not fighting for rights: no-one is out there trying to stop dull men from being dull.
Does the DMC campaign on any issues?
Yes. In the UK, we would like:
- Slow down of The London Eye: it moves much too fast for us.
- Expose the truth about London Squares: many of them are not squares. For example, the proper names should be Sloane Rectangle, Grosvenor Oval and Cleveland Trapezoid.
- Encourage music in more lifts like they have in elevators in the US.

In the US, we would like:
- people riding the elevators to refrain from singing along with the music: the singing makes the elevator ride too exciting. A low hum may be acceptable, however.
- more roundabouts: we like driving in the UK because there are so many roundabouts that are fun to drive around. The US has a real roundabout deficiency.
What is the DMC's greatest accomplishment?
Staying dull in spite of all the temptations for excitement that exist today.
Doesn't the DMC sound like it is one of those 12-step programs? Is it?
No. 12-step programs are designed to suggest that individuals change their behavior. Dull men don’t want to change.
In the Dull Men’s Club there are only two steps:
- We admit that we are dull
- We're going to keep it that way
Are women accepted in the Dull Men's Club?
No. It is our committee's view is that a woman cannot be dull. It is an impossibility.
This is because women are exciting. Moreover, we think women would be offended if we said they were dull . . . and it would probably be politically incorrect the way things are going...

We also question what they might do if they were in one of our meeting rooms.
The first thing they probably would do is rearrange the furniture. We like our furniture where it already is.
We have set up the DWC (Decent Women's Club) for the many women who like our site apparently. Lately, about one-half of the e-mails we receive are from women.
I'm a women. Please tell me more about the Decent Women's Club (DWC)?
The DWC is a place for women who like dull men and their dull ways.
We find that many women like dull men. Dull men are polite. They are helpful around the house. They are predictable, reliable, and safe.
How many dull men does it take to change a light bulb?
One. Obviously.

- I used to be one of those women who’d say, “I only need a man once a year — to rotate my mattress.” But then I met my present husband. He does so many things around the house, many more things that just rotating the mattress. Of course he rotates the mattress also. But more than once a year. He found instructions that say mattresses should be rotated every two weeks, which he does now religiously. My Mr. Wonderful says you dull men may enjoy reading the instructions from the website, so here they are:
It's wise to rotate your mattress every two weeks. After you first purchase your mattress, wait two weeks, then flip your mattress counter-clockwise for half a turn. Make sure you fit the mattress to the foundation, since this will preserve the mattress.
Once another two weeks have passed, you once again rotate the mattress, but this time slowly. Rotate it counter clockwise ¼ turn, raise it on its side with the top facing the headboard, then gently lower it onto the opposite side. Finish with another counter-clockwise ¼ turn. Rotate mattress counter clockwise ¼ turn.
In another two weeks, flip your mattress counter-clockwise for half a turn again. Remember to fit the mattress to the foundation once again. Repeat this routine for as long as your mattress lasts. By following the rotation cycle, you can make it last for a long time.
