Jan National Nothing Day

January 16 — [same date every year]

What will you not be doing to celebrate National Nothing Day?

The day was created in 1973 by San Francisco Examiner columnist Harry Pullman Coffin to be the ultimate unevent that would “provide Americans with one national day when they can just sit without celebrating, observing, or honoring anything.”

Coffin died in 1981. The day he created continues now under the sponsorship of Coffin’s National Nothing Foundation, Capitola, California. It is listed each year in Chase’s Calendar of Events. It is not, however, an official national holiday, not recognized as a national holiday by an act of Congress.

Wife asks husband one morning what he is going to do that day. Husband says he isn’t going to do anything.

Wife says, “That’s what you said yesterday.”

Husband says, “I didn’t finish.”
