March 9, 2014 — second Sunday every March — same day that Daylight Saving Time begins

March check batteries day

This is a day we are encouraged to check the batteries all around the house: smoke detectors, thermostats, laptops, cell phones, iPads, remote controls for TVs, and all other devices using batteries.
Smoke detectors are especially important to check. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the U.S., someone dies in a fire about every two hours.
